Color Vida Kids is a drawing and art-learning app for children, run by adults for families. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have — for our website and our apps alike. We wrote it to be readable by a busy parent, not just a lawyer.

1. Built for Kids, Managed by Parents

Color Vida Kids is a drawing, coloring, and art-learning app for children. The account belongs to a parent or guardian: the parent signs up with their own email address and manages everything from the grown-ups area. We designed the app to collect as little information as possible from children.

2. What We Collect

From the parent: an email address, a username, and a password, used only to run the account. From the child: a display name the parent types, an avatar chosen from our built-in set, the artwork they make, their lesson progress, and — when they use the AI art helper — the idea they picked or typed. If a parent turns on “Talk to Vida”, a child can also ask questions out loud: the microphone records only while the child taps the talk button, the recording is sent to our speech provider (OpenAI’s Whisper) just to turn it into text, the audio itself is never stored, and only the text transcript is kept — in the same AI activity log the parent can review. Voice is off for every child until a parent switches it on in the grown-ups area. We do not ask children for their real name, age, birthday, school, address, or phone number, and the AI helper is instructed never to request them. A child’s avatar cannot be a photograph: the app only accepts pictures from a fixed set of illustrations we drew, so a photo of a child is never uploaded or shown to anyone.

3. AI Features and Safety

When a child asks the AI to make a coloring page or give art feedback, the request is first checked by an automated safety screen; requests that are not appropriate for children are refused and are never sent to the AI. Pictures a child sends to the helper — such as their own drawing, when they ask what to do next — are checked the same way. If the safety check cannot run, the request is refused rather than allowed through. Every AI request is recorded in the account so the parent can review exactly what was asked and what was made. Spoken questions work the same way: the child’s words are turned into text first, and that text goes through the same safety screen and appears in the same parent-reviewable log — the recording itself is discarded. Our AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) process requests to provide the feature and do not use them to train their models.

4. What We Never Do

We do not sell personal information. We do not show ads. There is no chat, no messaging, and no comments anywhere in the app; there are no public profiles; and there is no way for a child to search for or discover another child. Children cannot type anything that another family can read — the only things a connected family ever sees are the artwork itself plus the display name and avatar the parent chose. A connection between two children can only be created when an adult in each family exchanges a single-use invite code, and either parent can end it at any time.

5. Friends & Sharing

Sharing is off for every child until their parent turns it on in the grown-ups area. Families connect only parent-to-parent: one parent creates a single-use invite code that expires in 24 hours, and the other family’s parent redeems it — children never see the code, cannot add friends on their own, and there is no search or discovery of any kind. Friends can see each other’s shared artwork and react with a small set of preset stickers; there is no typing and no messages. Either family’s parent can remove a friend or take down a shared picture at any time. Shared pictures are kept in private storage and can only be viewed through time-limited links that expire.

6. How Shared Pictures Are Checked

Every picture a child shares is automatically checked before anyone outside their own family can see it. A picture that does not pass is not shared, and the attempt is recorded for the parent to review. If our safety check cannot run for any reason, the picture is held and stays private until it can be checked or the child’s parent releases it — we do not let an unchecked picture through. Parents can also turn on approval for every share, so nothing leaves the family until a grown-up says yes. Automated checks are not perfect, which is why parents keep full control: you can see everything your child has shared and take any of it down at any time.

7. Safety Settings You Control

When you add a child, you choose a safety level for them — one tap sets everything up. “Solo Play” keeps a child to art and lessons on their own. “Guided Play” adds the AI art helper. “Play with Friends” adds voice and sharing with families you have connected to. You can change any individual setting at any time in the grown-ups area, including turning the AI helper or the microphone off for one child but not another, setting a daily time limit, and requiring your approval before any picture is shared. Turning something off takes effect immediately, on your child’s very next tap.

8. Parental Rights (COPPA)

A parent or guardian can review everything connected to their child in the app, ask us to correct it, or delete it entirely — deleting a child profile permanently removes that child’s artwork history, progress, and AI activity from our systems. A parent can also withdraw consent at any time by deleting the account, and can contact us to exercise any of these rights.

9. How Long We Keep Things

A child’s own artwork and progress are kept for as long as the account is open, because that is their work and the reason they are here — we do not delete a child’s drawings on a timer. Records about their activity do expire on a schedule: the AI activity log and the day-by-day activity history are kept for about 13 months, so you can still review a full school year; a picture shared with another family is removed from that family’s view after a year, though your child keeps their own copy; records of a blocked share, and the counters behind daily limits, are kept for 90 days; unused invite codes are removed after 30 days. Reports of a safety problem are kept for two years, because they are the record of a decision we made.

10. Deleting Is Immediate, and Separate

None of those time limits affect your right to delete. When you delete a child’s profile, everything belonging to that child — artwork history, progress, AI activity, shared pictures, friend connections, and the stored image files themselves — is removed from our systems at that moment; deleting the account removes all of it for every child. We do not keep a shadow copy for later. The schedule above only governs what goes without you having to ask.

11. Payment Data

Subscriptions are purchased by the parent and processed by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers. Children cannot make purchases in the app.

12. Cookies and Storage

We use one cookie, strictly for keeping the parent’s sign-in session working. Artwork and progress are stored in the account and on the device so a child can pick up where they left off.

13. Contact

For privacy questions or to exercise any parental right, email privacy@colorvidakids.ai.

14. Reporting a Safety Concern

If you have seen something in the app that worries you — a picture, a connected family, or anything involving a child’s safety — email safety@colorvidakids.ai. This address is also the right one for law enforcement, including preservation requests and legal process. Reports about a child in immediate danger should go to your local law enforcement first, and to the CyberTipline at report.cybertipline.org or 1-800-843-5678.
